The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is a passion project for Lights Out And Dance founder Karleen Harrington. With a background in fundraising and a love for dancing, Karleen saw the global event in 2016, had massive FOMO and knew the Gold Coast had to be part of it. She hosted the first local event and has been growing it ever since!
This event supports Friends with Dignity, a local Gold Coast charity dedicated to helping those impacted by domestic violence. 100% of the profits from the event go directly to the charity.
Every event location is different, and costs vary. The Gold Coast event at the Outdoor Stage HOTA – Home of the Arts costs $3500-$4000. We pay our artists, Auslan interpreter, photographer, and videographer. While HOTA generously donates their facility, we cover the tech staff costs.
Your event host, Karleen, volunteers her time – it’s a labour of love.
Ticket sales cover these expenses, with all profits going to Friends with Dignity. Purchasing merchandise or making additional contributions helps ensure more money reaches the charity.
No, the event includes a live dance tutorial led by our wonderful instructor, Nadia. We also post dance tutorials on our socials so you can practice before the event if you’d like.
Absolutely! HOTA offers wheelchair access throughout the venue. Additionally, we have the fabulous Julieta from Anytime Auslan interpreting the event. If there’s anything more we can do to ensure accessibility for everyone, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Contact details are below.
Have your QR code ready to be scanned – no need to print it, as we will have a list of names in our scanning app. Bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, and your best wuthering spirit! Comfortable shoes are also recommended for dancing. If you have a rug, beanbag or camping chair, bring that for the breaks!
If you can’t make it to the event, you can still support us by donating. Every dollar makes a difference. Donate here. Donations made through this link do not contribute towards costs, so 100% of donations go directly to the cause, and you will receive an automatic tax receipt to claim on your tax!
