The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever!?

The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever (TMWHDE) is a global event where participants dress as Kate Bush and recreate her iconic dance from the “Wuthering Heights” music video. It’s a celebration of unity and joy, bringing together friends and strangers alike to take part in a unique global movement. By participating, we’re not only having a blast but also raising funds for a crucial cause—supporting victims of domestic violence. There’s something truly magical and healing about all of us donning our red dresses and wuthering together!

When and where is the Gold Coast event taking place?

(TBC) Sunday 19th July 2026

9am – 12pm

(TBC) Outdoor Stage, HOTA – Home of the Arts.

How can I participate in the event?

To participate, simply book your ticket through our event page. Dress in your best Kate Bush-inspired outfit and join us for a morning of dance and fun!

Who runs the event?

The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is a passion project for Lights Out And Dance founder Karleen Harrington. With a background in fundraising and a love for dancing, Karleen saw the global event in 2016, had massive FOMO and knew the Gold Coast had to be part of it. She hosted the first Gold Coast event in 2017, and has been growing it ever since!

What charity does the event support?

This event supports Friends with Dignity, a local Gold Coast charity dedicated to helping those impacted by domestic violence. 100% of the profits from the event go directly to the charity.

Why is this event ticketed while some are not?

Every event location is different, as are the costs involved to host each event.

On the Gold Coast, our event at the Outdoor Stage HOTA, Home of the Arts costs approximately $5000 to produce.

Even with HOTA generously donating the venue, we still cover essential expenses like staffing, sound tech and equipment etc; and paying our amazing  artists including our Wuther Leader, Auslan interpreter, photographer, and videographer etc – all of whom work at incredibly reduced rates to help make the magic happen.

Your event host, Karleen, donates her time entirely to bring this event to you – it really is a labour of love.

Ticket sales go directly towards covering these costs, and 100% of all profits are donated directly to Friends with Dignity, supporting their work with victims of domestic violence.

Every extra contribution, whether it’s purchasing merch or contributing a little towards these costs at checkout helps us ensure we cover those costs and achieve our goal of raising as much money as we can for this important cause.

Do I need to know the dance beforehand?

No, the event includes a live dance tutorial led by our wunderful Wuther Leader, Nadia. We also post dance tutorials on our socials so you can practice before the event if you’d like.

Is the event accessible?

Absolutely! HOTA offers wheelchair access throughout the venue. Additionally, we have the fabulous Julieta from Anytime Auslan interpreting the event. If there’s anything more we can do to ensure accessibility for everyone, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Contact details are below.

What should I bring to the event?

Have your QR code ready to be scanned – no need to print it, as we will have a list of names in our scanning app. Bring a bottle of water, sunscreen, and your best wuthering spirit! Comfortable shoes are also recommended for dancing.  If you have a rug, beanbag or camping chair, bring that for the breaks!

What if I can’t attend but still want to help?

If you can’t make it to the event, you can still support us by donating. Every dollar makes a difference. Donate here. Donations made through this link do not contribute towards costs, so 100% of donations go directly to the cause, and you will receive an automatic tax receipt to claim on your tax!

What if my question hasn’t been answered?

For any other questions, contact us via our socials or mwhdegc@gmail.com. You can also contact Karleen on 0429 600 707.

Where did The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever start?

The event began in 2013 with British theatrical group Shambush creating The Ultimate Kate Bush Experience. In 2016, with permission from Shambush, Samantha Wareing launched The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, which quickly went global.

Since then, more than 15,000 ‘Cathys’ in over 70 cities worldwide have participated, with some events hosting over 2000 participants at once!

Do people attend on their own?

Yes, a lot of our wutherers do!  We are a very welcoming wuthering community and some truly great friendships have been forged from our event. So please don’t be shy to join us on your own.

What should I wear?

Participants typically wear a red dress, inspired by Kate Bush’s outfit in the “Wuthering Heights” music video, which includes:

  • Red flowy dress with bishop sleeves
  • Black floral waist sash
  • Flowers in hair
  • Flowers on neck
  • Red tights
  • Brown wig (unless you have the real thing!)

Feel free to get creative with your costume!

How many people attend each year?

Since the first event on the Gold Coast in 2017, attendance has grown yearly. The 2025 event was the biggest yet, with almost 250 (“Kates”) joining the mass wuther.

Is there an event sponsor?

Currently, there is no event sponsor. If your business is interested in sponsoring, please get in touch! Sponsorship would help cover costs and ensure more funds go directly to the charity.

Do You Offer Refunds?

No.  As per our booking T&C’s, as this is a charity fundraising event, tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Once event costs are covered, 100% of the remaining profits are donated to our charity partner, Friends with Dignity.

Is the dance leader a trained dance teacher?

No, our dance leaders are entertainers who have stepped up to the challenge of leading everyone through the dance, but they are NOT trained dance teachers.

Is there an age limit for participants?

No, The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever is open to all ages. It’s a joyous event for the whole community, welcoming everyone to join in the fun. We love seeing families and the entire community donning red dresses and wuthering together! Gender, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or political persuasions are irrelevant our event.

Can I invite friends and family to watch?

Yes of course, please do!

Just remember, this is a ticketed event so while spectators are absolutely welcome to enjoy the beauty that is our Wuther, if they join you on the green they will be required to purchase a ticket – which we’d love – the more, the merrier!

Share the event with your friends, family, and colleagues. Tag them in our socials and encourage everyone in your network to join the global mass wuther as we raise awareness and funds in a meaningful way for a such an important cause.

How can I stay updated on event details?

Follow us on our social media pages (Facebook / Instagram) and check your email for updates and announcements. We’ll keep you informed about everything you need to know leading up to the event.

Can I take photos of your event

As an event participant, you can take pics and you can have your friends who watch take pics , but only from outside of the green.

If you are a photographer wanting to come and take photos, please note that we have an official event photographer and do not allow any other photographers onto the green or stage/side of stage.
